If you just look at the price and the monetary side of things then of course AMD/ATi will win. They are supposed to be the budget option. But when you factor in the other aspects such as performance to the price and other extra features, then Nvidia will win hands down. For example the HD3870 is cheap but for just a little more you can get your hands on an 8800GT and that leaves the HD3870 coughing in its dust.
