Angry Norton Uninstallation

Ok, I just built my computer. When I got my gigabyte ds4 it came with a software cd. On this cd, there was free norton software. Despite all i heard about norton being bad, i though what the heck. I installed all of this software.

Within the next couple of days, upon boot-up, i got a symantec error, saying it couldn'd find the file NAVprod. Somewhat angry about this problem, i used the cd to re-install the program. In the beggining of the installation, it said that where was a file missing and it couldn't continue. In a fit of rage, i recklessly just manually found as many Norton files i could on my computer and deleted them. Still, I get the error on start up about missing the NAVprod file on my computer. How can i delete any and every trace of norton on my computer and have it removed on the "add/remove programs" list. I do no like norton.

arrr mate... I have just had a barny about Norton with another member so I KNOW how you feel believe me !!

apart from doing a complete reinstall(is this an option for you??) you could try editing the registry and searching for all symantec files and delete them manually.. it may take a while but it would be worth it and if you end up having to reinstall the OS then you haven't lost anything have you apart from a little time.

Even nortons uninstaller does not remove it properly.

You REALLY should have listened to your instincts mate.....good luck

CCleaner can remove old registry entries that point to missing entries and old files.

Instead of doing it manually, run a registry cleaner like Regcleaner or CCleaner that look for and remove orphaned registry keys.

if you're not happy doing it manually then i would go with the ccleaner option as i've had probs with regcleaner removing a bit more than it should have before. but maybe that was my fault LOL
