Ok since there is no Comment and Suggestion forum I decided to post this here. I don't know if anyone else has noticed or if its just me, but does it seem like people are going to Off Topic and posting just to make their post count go up. I have been reading posts where people are posting and it either has nothing to do with the question at hand, or there is some posts with just a smiley face.
In most if not all of the other forums I go to the Off Topic section does not go toward your post count, because to many people were posting complete random crap that either made no sense and there was not even a point to the post and they were just posting because they are bored. The other issue was people were getting into post count contests to see who could had more. I was thinking that only posts that are computer related should count toward the post count. I think the Off Topic section is great for all forums, I just dont agree with it increasing your post count. I know as a newbie if I'm getting advice from someone with a post count of say 3000 I'm going to trust them more than someone with a count of 20. If I know that those 3000 posts are from Off Topic I wont take his advice as serious as some one else. So in some ways it is kind of a bad thing to have you post count go up for Off Topic posts. I have been on the site for a long time now and I pretty much know whose advice is good and whose is not, but being a newbie I would not know that and I would go by a post count. I mean there is some people on here that have been here for a month or so and are WELL past a few hundred post and I highly doubt those are from computer related topics. Take me for example I know most of my post count is from Off Topic, but I know I dont know much about PC's so I dont try and answering anything I'm not sure of because I dont want to give bad advice and cause more problems for others.

Feb 2006 is a "long time"? Eh...dunno if I agree with that. I don't even consider myself as a "long time" member, and I've been her since mid-2004.
Out of curiosity, did you search for your question before asking it? I know I've read (possible several times) an answer to this question by the staff. Every time, they say Off Topic still counts towards the post count. Maybe this time will be different...but I wouldn't bank on it. If this is in regard to your last topic about the phone calls, I personally think it needs to be reviewed by the staff as well. In my opinion, you really went off on people in that thread for no reason. Everyone was trying to help, giving you advice, etc. Then you made this...so I can only imagine it was because of that last thread.

Well, honestly, it SHOULDN'T matter anyway, but when newer people join, they would be more apt to take the advise of those with a higher post count, so if off topic posts didn't count then post count could theoretically gauge wisdom, so my vote goes nay.
Did that make sense? I'm intoxicated.

I only really use CF for the off-topic chat now-a-days, since I can't afford to upgrade my computer any more. So it doesnt matter to me either way.

But I think you should get post count for Off Topic, I think post count should represent what you put into this forum as a whole, and Off Topic is apart of this forum. Kent. |
