Exclamation Memory Problem!!

I have a HP Pavillion computer which currently has 64Mb ram in it. I got 256Mb for it, but the computer will not recognise it in memory bank 1. The ram is the correct type according to the HP website, just a different make. What can I do to solve the problem. Any ideas??

Default Hmmm...

How many banks do you have? If you have more than one (likely), try it there. However that's all I can help you with for now. Try only puttinng in one. You probably tried both of them at once right?

what the HP model. I know in some older computer it can only handle 128mb chips and not 256mb chips. I know for a fact my dad celeron 600mhz can only handle a max of 256(2X128).

Correct as in # of pins and speed maybe but is it the correct in physical arrangement (single sided vs doublesided)
