Default What does it all mean?

Ok, I am thinking about getting a new video card, but i have no clue where to start. I really dont even know what is good, bad, or anything. what do the numbers stand for?? the higher the number the better, or what?? i have no idea.

take a look at www.anandtech.com and look under the video section for reviews of current video cards
