My friend has just put a bunch of money into a machine and he cant seem to get it to power up. All the motherboard lights come on but when he presses the power button nothing happens.. I'm pretty sure he has his power button cord in the right place on the motherboard. So besides that and perhaps a bad powersupply I dont know what's wrong. See power supply below>>
His machine: Motherboard: Asus Striker Extreme http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131074 CPU: Core 2 duo E6400 CPU Cooler: Asus Artice Square Dvd burner: Asus (Sata) Hard drive: Western digital 250gb Powersupply: Thermaltake Toughpower 850w http://http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153043 Graphics card: Older geforce 6800 card until he gets his new one. Thanks in advance he's really stressing out about it. Last edited by Chroniclez05; 06-17-2007 at 03:31 AM. |

So it doesnt start at all or does it start but no video?
No start: Shorting - Motherboard is touching case. Forgot to put standoffs or standoffs are too short. Connections - He did not connect or misconneced the wire from the case start button to the motherboard. PSU- The PSU is bad No video: Bad video card Faulty RAM Faulty CPU CPU fan is not spinning/not spinning at a certain RPM shorting there is thermal paste on mobo/cpu causing short.

it could be that he connected the power button wire witht he ground where the pwr side should be.. or in the wrong place.. or it could be he forgot to connect the 4 pin.. or 8 pin (which ever his mobo has((if any)) .. something like that

I've tried to switch the power button wire back and forth on where it should go and pressed the power button and got nothing.. His 8 pin was plugged into the motherboard.. I'm just going to take it all apart and put it all back together when I go over there today.. Wish me luck.
BTW He has the same case as you frost02! Last edited by Chroniclez05; 06-17-2007 at 05:19 PM. |
