Strange glitch in STALKER

HEy guys I have a problem in Stalker:shadow of chernobyl. Look at the pic. This is at the very beginning of the game.

it might have something to do with the patch your on
but the problem is if you update the patch you do have to start again

change your screen resolution, u have it set wrong.
also is this a purchased item or a 'aquired' item
