You can format the drive, read file from it but no go on seeing Windows installed. That sounds all too familiar with a few ide drives here lately when problems running existing installations were suddenly seen on two otherwise normal systems. In both the main drive was replaced to see XP go right on again and see both running.

The heads on the two drives in those builds were toast! You could retrieve off them but not install Windows. In fact one saw the primary deleted to see if a new one could be created. No way! The other one saw files and folders copied to the then larger storage drive and remains onhand until photos and personal files are found.
