Thats because CD Keys from manufacturers such as IBM are only for IBM computers.

Microsoft needs all the people it can get for Vista, you don't even need to pay for Vista. The OS lets you install it with a 30 day "evaluation" period, without the need of a CD Key. It even lets you extend that another 30 days by a simple command via the CMD (up to 180 days with no limitations). Unlike XP, you also don't need to have the OS activated in order to receive updates or download certain programs from Microsoft.com
