Default Video capture problems

I just bought a Sony Handycam DCR-hc42, camera seems to be nice, but I cant capture any video. I bought a Belkin firewire PCI card, got firewire, hooked up the card, device manager says it is working properly, computer recognized my camera, said it is functioning properly, but when it captures the video, no sound, just distortion comes out of the speakers, and the video is the same, really distorted, cant see the picture at all, is usually green with blotchy patches, I have looked for updated drivers, says I have the latest frivers, tried using windows movie maker, ulead video studio, and sony's picture perfect. But all act exactly the same way. I hooked the cam up to my t.v. after recording, picture and sound was great, no problems there, just after downloading to my p.c. Any help please.
