Well right now, I think the memory in my computer is probably the most inferior thing in the case. I have had this pc2-4200 value select ram for about 2 years back and I got it when ram prices went to into a quick slump so I got it for cheap. Anyways with my current set up(in my signature), should I get 4 gb of ram?, or should I just get another kind of ram for just 2 gb. I was looking at the xms2 as a possible choice. I do a lot of graphic design, some 3d modeling(although I haven't done so much as of lately), and a good amount of high end gaming. I also multi-task a lot, between these things.

If you are using windows XP 32bit (like almost everyone who uses XP) and you get 4GB your system wont be able to access all 4GB. Even with Vista, you don't really need more than 2GB yet, but RAM is fairly cheap again so if you do want 4GB now is a good a time as any to buy it. I would just get 2GB of high performance RAM like XMS2. If you get the same speed RAM but better timings the performance increase will be fairly small.

Yeah I have an extra hard drive that I plan on dual booting with Vista in the next couple of months.. but I thought XP supported up to 4 gig, and then 64 bit goes up to 8.

It should run fine though even with 4gb in xp? As much of my money as I spent on this pc from summer jobs, I want it to run as good as possible.

XP does support 4GB of address space but only the first 3GB or so is used for RAM. You can put the 4GB in anyway it's just some part of it wont be visible to windows, otherwise it wont hurt anything.

64bit supports an obscene amount of address space.
