It might be smart to keep it incase a website requires it but heres how to unistall it:
Click Start
Go to Control Panel
Choose Add or Remove Programs
On the left choose Add or Remove Windows Components
Find the Internet Explorer check box and check it
Click Next and follow through with the wizard

I don't recommend you to uninstall IE. I wanted to do so but then I got problem that my Firefox won't loading (I don't know why) then I just use my IE. You can set Firefox to be your default browser anyways, that's for safe

A lot of programs use IE for an interface. Steam, Norton, CA Anti-virus to name 3. If you removed it then your computer would mess up.

Steam is the only reason I haven't removed mine. I think they should put Steam like EA puts EA Link. I don't like it running every time I go to start a game.

also, IE is necessary for things like windows updates and lots of other security settings, if you uninstall it you are going to have problems

I was going to say that, exactly! You need IE for Windows updates.

Default dont remove it

the only IE i recommend to get rid of, is if you install an updated version, like IE7. but dont get rid of the baseline version. it comes with your windows by defualt. leave it that way. you can take it off your desktop if you want and your start menu, but dont remove it from the system
