Is it possible that a new graphics card can make the cmos battery leak?


Here's what happened: my boyfriend's computer was installing the windows updates one day, and it shut off when done. When he tried to turn it on again, it kept restarting as it was booting up. Tried safe mode, last settings, etc, it still would just go up to the windows screen, and restart. So then it gave him an error message, told him to uninstall virus scan software, or run checkdisk. But since we don't know how to do that in DOS, we took the computer to my bro' in law.

He opened the computer and turns out the cmos battery had leaked. (I dont know if this is why the computer didn't boot, or if this happened after the many attempts at turning it on)

Bro' in law was able to get the important files out, (he did that by hooking up the hardrive to another hardrive or something like that lol), and he says everything should work fine, just that I need to replace the motherboard. My boyfriend had installed a new graphics card a few months back, and everything worked fine. My bro' in law said that when installing a new graphics card (this one has its own fan) that you should update the power supply, so he thinks it was just too much electricity or something like that that made the battery leak....or he said the battery was just old.

So, does the graphics card have anything to do with the CMOS battery leakage?

I don't think that there is really anyway that a new graphics card can directly relate to the CMOS battery leaking. Also, before buying a new motherboard, I would just replace the battery and see if that works. As for upgrading the PSU, well it depends on what video card it is that you got. Most PSUs that come with computers would be able to handle a low to mid range graphics card.
