Default Rdram Question

My one friend asked me to figure out why his computer gives him the message of non compatible ram on the post before windows starts up. I asked what latency it was an he told me 45 sec. I asked FSB and he said 533. Instantly I know that you should have 40 sec. latency Rdram for 533. When I looked up prices for proper ram type I saw the typical overpriced Rdram tag. He has no noticeable speed loss so is it alright to use the slower ram? This isn't effecting performance levels any correct?
