Default Internet browsing works, but not services can connect to internet

I re-installed Windows XP Professional onto my machine. Browsing the internet using both IE and Firefox works fine, but services such as Windows Activation (Only 29 Days Left, Oh Noes!), AOL Instant Messenger, and MSN Messenger are unable to connect. I get an error code when I try to connect with MSN Messenger. Also, the time is failing to update. I turned off Windows Firewall, no luck. Any ideas?

EDIT: Nevermind, I reminded myself of what the problem was when I said the time wasn't updating. All I had to do was set the correct time and date.
