Default Hard Drive Woes

I have an HP DV9000 laptop which has 2 hard drive bays, so i would like to buy a second HDD, but i am a little confused by the types of laptop hard drives.
My original HDD is a Western Digital Scorpio 2.5 inch 120gb that uses the SATA 1.5 Gb/s interface. my question is: will a SATA 3gb/s hard drive work with my computer??? also what is the difference between SATA 3 gb/s and ATA150?
Any insight would be much appreciated!
