Default p4 vs dual core

Currently, I have a P4 2.8GHz processor without hyperthreading. I'm thinking of upgrading to this:

Quote:
CPU
CPU Type: Intel Pentium dual-core
CPU Speed: T2080(1.73GHz)
CPU FSB: 533MHz
CPU L2 Cache: 1MB
Is that even worth it?

I'm pretty sure the CPU you have quoted is a laptop processor, so it won't fit in your desktop.

No that is mobile if your mobo supports it upgrade one of these, don't let the Ghz fool you the Core architecture is way faster than the old Pentiums Netburst architecture.

I'm switching from a desktop to a laptop. I just wanted a comparison of the two CPUs. I guess I should have said switch and not upgrade; I don't know.

@IntelCrazy so the dual core is considerably faster than the P4?

Same FSB but basically that could be considered as 3.46Ghz b/c of dual-core, do NOT think of it that way, there are factors that play in that. It will be a lot better for multi-tasking and the L2 Cache is twice the size of the old P4.

I would still consider a 3.46 considerably better than a 2.8.

This is what I'm thinking of getting:

and this is what I used to have:

I want to get a laptop in the 600-800 price range. Do you think that would be a good purchase?

Do you want Linux? Also, I would suggest that you upgrade to 1GB of ram. 1GB is basically the bottom line right now.
