Default Intel C2D Temp Max

Intel's max temp for a E6600 is 60.1C. Is that the individual core temp, or the whole CPU?

The temps dont vary much at all between both cores. And the max temp is not 60.1C, maybe the max recommended, but it can easily handle 70-75C.

Like, when I use Speedfan under load, I get both of the core temps, around 45C, then I get the CPU temp which is usually around 56C. Which one should I be using to compare to the max temps?

Thats weird, because for me the Core temps are higher, as they should be. Because I believe the CPU temp comes from the motherboard, which places a temp sensor next to the processor.

Either way, I would go based on the core temp.

Heres a pic with Speedfan (load) As you can see the Cores are cooler than the CPU. So I should trust the Core temps?
