I try to defrag. twice a week if I remember. It only takes 5 minutes on my 300 gb drive. If it's been awhile you might want to run a check disk also, make sure and check the two boxes to fix system errors and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

My drive was so fragmented it was almost completely red, and just about enough space free on the drive which was already going hot with stress. It was like the system had caught fever Fortunately i was able to back up bfore i sent the patient for treatment, it took me a few hours. Felt it was better to chuck this system out and get a new one.
