bsod and memory

I just got 2 new sticks of mem for my laptop and since then i have goten some bsod. i think it is because of the memory. Also it is very rair. i will be doing nothing and come back and it had it up. All i had runing was aim, yahoo and internet explorer. I would give you the bsod code but my comp is going through a memory test to make sure it is the memory. I will post back with the results and the code. But if it is my memory, is there much you can do, If i find a sector bad, can i shut it off, or should i try to return it (if i can find the recete and it is under warintey) Or what do you think is the best way to fix this?

There's really nothing you can do with bad RAM but exchange it. Most has a lifetime warranty so that shouldn't be a problem. However, you might want to even consider other brands if you can easilly return it. Sometimes laptops don't like certain brands/models/speeds/etc... On an Averatec forum, they have basically compiled a list of what 1GB sticks work with the laptop as some give similar errors as what you are getting.

the test cam back ok, and i dont have the exact error. the the event id is 6008. hope this helps

test the sticks one at a time. it might not catch the error if you run both since it does this random read and write test.

Alright, well I did some research on the event ID you gave. The following comes from Microsofts website:

A power failure or some other unexpected shutdown event may cause a corrupted registry hive. To determine whether this is the cause of the issue, look for event ID 6008 entries. Event ID 6008 entries indicate that there was an unexpected shutdown. In this case, some process may have been in the process of modifying part of the registry hive, and the computer lost power before that change could be completed. This leaves the registry hive in an inconsistent state. On restart, when the operating system tries to load the registry hive, it may find data in that registry hive that it cannot interpret, and you may receive one of the error messages that is included in the "Summary" section of this article.

File Corruption and Faulty Hardware
Other files may be corrupted. You must determine whether only the registry hives are corrupted or whether other files (system and data) are corrupted. If corruption is not limited to registry hives, the corruption may be a result of faulty hardware. This hardware may include anything that is involved in writing to a disk, such as the following:
• The random access memory (RAM)
• The cache
• The processor
• The disk controller
If you suspect faulty hardware, the hardware vendor must thoroughly investigate the condition of all computer components.

yeah i would send them back, first ram i got for my laptop was bad and it would shut of randomly so many times then just not work, then they sended me new sticks and never had a problem
