Hi all, hopefully you can help me. as this dual core business is confusing me..
i'm currently using my laptop which apparently has (according to the stickers on front "intel core duo(inside) and centrino duo) or exactly as it says in properties: Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2400 @ 1.83GHz 1.83GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM now my question is as follows. i am wanting to play/install a game, you may have heard of it, its called overlord. now in the specs, it says i need 2.5GHz cpu so i can run it. Now as far as my educated guesses go, i would guess that the two CPUs add up to 3.66GHz, which means i can play the game without any issues. Is this actually how it works, or am i getting my wires crossed? any advice would be greatly appreciated.. P.S. Quake 4 works fine, and that needs 2.0GHz CPU.. P.P.S. i dont wanna overclock as its a laptop i'm using, and it will surely overheat. cheers in advance for any answers Wolla |

Dual Core is parallel, it is not in series so you get 1.83GHz with the ability for the OS to share the load between the 2 cores. Now about the game requirements. Your CPU is built on a new architecture simply called core, and games are specced around the older Netburst architecture. Netburst requires pure GHz to run well but the Core architecture means that you can get more things done per clock cycle. This means frequencies can be massively reduced and the end result is still better than the Netburst. Look at mine; it runs at 1.86 but smashes my mum's P4 2.8GHz laptop! So those games should run fine, but then it'll be down to the GPU.
