Default error message: load needed DLLs for kernel

Hello,

I was running the "windows live onecare safety scanner" (which doesn't seem to be particularly safe to me!) on my desktop and when I came back to check on the scan I found the following error message on my black screen:

"Windows could not start because of an error in the software. Please report this problem as: load needed DLLs for kernel. Please contact your support person to report this problem."

XP home is not able to boot, not even in safe mode. Every time I start the computer I get the same error message.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Thanks,

Herringtrader

I'll stand to be corrected here but the kernal which is the main part of your operating system has been damaged. It looks like you may have to enter the BIOS and set to boot from your Windows CD and choose the option to install. One option will hopefully leave your data intact.
