Default Help with CPU thermal probev

Ok guys, I have a thermaltake V2000 case which as a temperature and fan speed control. It has a thermal diode/probe thing, and I was wondering, where I should put it on the CPU, and everything, like if it will affect temperature at all. Anything that has to do with a CPU temperature thing, cons or pros, please post here. Thanks.

Where else would you put it?

Huh? No, the probe should not affect heat transfer, if that's what you mean

As in where on the CPU, I have heard some say in the very corner, or am I mistaken? I didn't know if it was to be placed in the middle, or on the side or whatever.

I wouldn't put it anywhere where its going to directly contact the CPU. Most CPU thermal sensors I've seen have been meant to be attached to the underside of the HSF very close, but not touching, the CPU. As I see it, why mess up the thermal contact, you an accurate onboard temp sensor already.

Place it in a corner on the bottom of your heatsink. Because of the heat spreader, you don't have to worry about it accidentally touching the core.

Or you can even connect it to the video card (which is usually easier) ... the reason i suggest this is because for many people, when their CPU temps rise they are usually playing a game or something ... which causes their GPU temps to rise as well

About the post on the onboard temp. I know about that, its just my system has a 5.25 bay used for it, and I don't want it to just sit there looking pretty.

Praetor: I have the X850, it has taken SO long to get it, I am not going to even DARE take of the cooling system. :]

So I should put it on the very corner of the HSF? I have water cooling....So should I put it on the very corner of the water block?

Who said anything about off? You can pop it on the video cards heatsink (which generally is easier to adjust/access than the CPU as its usually easier to pop the vid card than the HSF)

The water block is on the cpu only for now, but I doubt I will get one for the mobo. If I put it on the corner of that, would that do fine? I might have to get a waterblock for the GPU though, because I hear X850's run hot.

They do have a thermal diode AFAIK so you can always check for yerself instead of relying on heresay

But since you dont have watercooling on the GPU then why not attatch the case temp lead there?
