Exclamation Laptop Won't Charge

I have a HP Pavilion ze5170 and just today, I found that it wouldn't start up. It doesn't seem like the AC Adapter is charging it. Every time I try to turn it on it gets past BIOS but at the Windows XP loading screen powers off. How can I attempt to fix this as cheaply as humanely possible? I really don't want to by anything, the laptop isn't worth as much I'd put into it.

Thanks For The Help

So you are trying to turn it on with it still plugged into the wall, right? take the battery out and try....it could be as simple as a faulty power cable?

I don't get it... I can get the charge light to come on, but as soon as I turn the computer on, the charge light turns off and the computer soon shuts off.

What happens without the battery? Can you get anything from it?

how long do u wait until u turn it on?? u have to let it charge for a while before turning it on! it used to happen to my vaio all the time and my HP and my Compaq.. just let it charge for half an hour then turn it on.. if it doesnt work u either have a faulty battery or the computer is stuffed and then u can claim it on warrenty..

Doesn't work when the battery is pulled either... Could the problem be the AC adapter?
