Having Problems accessing certain web pages can u help pls?

Hi,
I have very limited knowledge of computers, internet web pages etc and I would really appreciate any help. I tried to access my ebay today and an error code 404 on windows xp showed. Certain web pages I can access and others I cannot. The same message appears for all web pages I can't get to. I have deleted my temp files & cookies, ran virus searches & internet connection problems etc and everything is fine. I really have no idea what to do next. Can anyone offer any help or advice please. From the pages I have tried those ending in html will not work or php or jsp. Don't know if this means anything. I am using tiscali broadband.
