Have you tried taking all of the components out of the case and running the system outside of the case completely? Like on a desk or something. If it boots up fine when setup on a desk not in an actual case then you can be pretty sure it's the case shorting it. But indeed, make sure all of the power connectors are connected. I forgot to place the CPU power connector to the motherboard once and got nothing but a black screen because of it.

But yes, check the connectors, take them all out and put them all back in if need be. If that fails, try running the components out of the case. Might be worth a check to make sure the CPU is seated properly too. When you tried the onboard graphics, did you disable the AGP / PCI-E graphics option in your BIOS and enable onboard?
