hi,
os: xp pro sp2 Model: acer aspire 1692 Notebook (No floppy drive.) I have all the manuals and everything. I had set a password on both HDD and BIOS setup a few weeks ago. Now I know the HDD´s password but I forgot the BIOS setup password. Can anyone help me please? is it possible to recover it?

![]() To be a little clearer, there is a battery that connects to the motherboard that lets the computers save BIOS settings such as the password, and if you can disconnect that, you can reset the password. Looking at your laptop, I think MAYBE you have to pop off the piece of plastic between the keyboard and the power button/lights, probably without removing any screws. Then unscrew and remove the keyboard, and my guess is that the battery is right there. Disconnect it, turn the laptop on for 30 seconds, turn it off, reconnect, put it back together, and you should be good to go.

(on desktop computer that is very simple) I will try to find the battrey´s location. I will also make a movie on youtube about it to help other people. thanx. ![]() edit: is that the only way to reset the pass? isnt there anythign else (hack, patch, .... ) to find it?

The battery removal may work for you as you have an older NB, but the newer Acer's (and other brands) have a security chip in them that needs to be overidden to reset the password. If that is the case you will need to contact Acer and go through a process on the phone (they tell you the secret key-press, which displays a cryptic code on your screen, which you email to Acer and they confirm it against your serial number and other information, and if all is good, they email you back another cryptic code, which unlocks your BIOS.)
Or they may ask you to send your system to them. We had this happen at work yesterday.
