Default Air Crash in Brazil

Link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6907704.stm

It's shocking really, the reverse thrusters were off! That thing weighs a fair amount so I doubt some brakes would stop it quickly enough in the rain.

I think that only one was off, but still, that plane was going insanely fast even if one reverse thruster wasn't active. Watch the video of it, if the pilot is not trying to take off again he came down way too hot.

In the article I got the impression that the airline was blaming Airbus because the manual said that you didn't need them. I think a several hundred tonne plane would need them to stop in the wet somehow...

My understanding is that Airbus says you can operate the plane with 1 not active. There are other methods to stop the plane as well, not just the wheel breaks. The wheel brakes and anti-skid system are the main components (they are used to calculate the stopping distance of the plane).

Should the plane have been flying without all of it's braking systems functioning? Probably not but I don't think that that combined with the weather is the only reason it crashed
