Default Settings in photoshop, help...

hey guys, hope this is ok here wasn't sure were to put it.....

Anyway i have a problem with photoshop 7.. when i open a black and white image and go to write on it with the type tool... ps highlights the image pink...
And i cant change the colour of my writing... it wants to stay grey..

what setting do i need to change to fix this up...

although it seems to work fine with a colourful picture.

I really need help..

Edit: maybe something is wrong with my colour settings? any1 know how to re-apply default settings.

Edit: Thats ok guys i fixed it, i had to change my image mode to RGBcolor(it was on greyscale) and i reset my Preferences.. this site will tell you how if you have the same problem..
