Default Upgades

My brothers use a Compaq Presario 6000 and it has been running really slow lately. The specs are below:

Intel Celeron 1.4GHz Processor
256 MB of RAM (I just ordered a 512 MB chip from eBay)
40GB Ultra DMA HD
Integrated Intel Direct APG 3D graphics with up to 11MB dynamic video memory
(Barely) Runs Windows XP Home Edition

Now that I have the RAM ordered the main problem is the processor and the small HD. Is it possible to upgrade the processor to something like this Pentium 4? Also, do you have any suggestions concerning a good HD for a low price? Thanks!

That is a link to all the Presario 6000 Series PC's.

From wut i looked up you CAN use that CPU. But look for yourself as their are 4 diff "6000" model Presario's

i would also consider upgrading the GPU as well

Thanks for the reply! It's the Presario 6300us. What inexpensive GPU would you suggest? Thanks again!

Why would that be? Couldn't I get some compatible parts off eBay? Thanks!

That processor might not be able to work. Check what is compatable with that motherboard. As for a GPU since im assuming its a AGP card i would recommend a EVGA 7600 GS such as this one:

Will that graphics card work well with 3D stuff? My brother does a bunch of 3D modeling and rendering on there. Thanks for the help!

It won't work since you have a really old agp slot (11mb of video integrated tell us how old it's lol), and even if you do really get a processor it would be a waste of money unless you get it for like 5$ or less

Oh so you must have a 2x 4x slot im assuming. That will still work because it operates at 4x as well. But if your mobo is just 2x well i dont anything out right now that supports it
