ok im trying to finally fix this hp, but there are so many errors that i think a system restore is the only way to fix it... how do i access the option for system restore, and will doing this delete any data?

you will retain all data. though any application or system file changes between those points will be restored to previous.
start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore

That will bring the system back to the way it was when the restore point used was created. But if these errors have been accumilated over a period of time that will exceed the calendar month you would go by with the restore process. Once your OS gets too polluted you may want to consider a repair install if problems are constant.
The last option with all important files already backed up would be to simply delete the current installation and start off fresj again. You should have the option to bring the system back there to factory condition and simply have to reinstall programs and games all over. The repair install requires a full install or system builder recovery disk over any prestamped by HP. Those rely on the archived restoration files tucked away on pre OSed systems.

hmm, well i believe the only restore point would've been created by the factory, HP does that right?

You don't have to reformat a drive to perform a repair install on XP if needed. That method refreshes the main system files while keeping programs and folders intact. You may have to reinstall video and sound drivers if needed however. You can even deleted the current copy for a new one and not even need to touch the remaining files and folders on the drive if that isn't cluttered over a lengthy period of time.
