Default .CDA extension problem

greetings,
my cousin was saving video and picture files from his computer to a dvd disc using nero.

....somehow, the files burned as .cda . the files are in huge blocks of 1 and 2 GB'S (not kb's).

...how can he recover them back onto his computer so that he can burn/save them properly?

thanks for any help you can give!

.......additional; when he opens the dvd disc and clicks on the "cda" icon, the icon is only 44kbs (or something like that). however, when he clicks on the drive icon to determine how much is on the disk, that is where it shows in the gb's.....
