Default free internet speed check.

I keep googling, but no luck. I'm looking for a webpage that will tell me what my internet bandwidth is for no charge whatsoever, with no software to download except Flash or some other common software (every "free" test I find makes me download their programs). I know something like this exists because I've had been to one before; I just can't remember the webpage. Does anyone know?

you must divide that by 8 to get your true speed.

1. Why is that? Why do I have to divide by 8?

2. 164/8 is 20.5, not 9.25. Put it into your computer's calculator.

The reason you divide by 8 is because your speed is rated in kilobits, not kilobytes. 8 bits equal 1 byte.

The reason you're only getting half your speed can be caused by many things.. If DSL another user, TCP may not be optimized, etc.

I don't have any other internet connections in this house. The only other computer in this house is broken, and all of my consoles are off. What does TCP mean?

Transmission Control Protocol. The protocol most computers use to connect to the internet (TCP/IP).. Along with DHCP and a mess of other acronyms.

This may be able to help you. (don't sue me )
