depends what you plan on doing with this computer? With out knowing that I would proberly go with the athlon 64 3500+ mainly because the pentium 4 3.6ghz cost $439 and the athlon 64 3500+ cost $281.

Then it would come down to my original question what you plan on doing with this computer?

The answer is here compfreak
intel 6xx or athlon 64 3500

Essentially if you plan to predominantly game, go for the AMD, otherwise go Intel

I'm a software engineer with both a P4 HT and an AMD64 on my desk. I always have 8-10 things running at the same time. For me, the difference between them really isn't that close, and it is something that will never show up on benchmarks. A few times / day off-the-shelf programs (like IE or M$ Word or SQL server, etc.) goes nuts and just hangs up, usually for a few minutes and then something times out and they display error messages or whatever. Just typical software anomolies. On the single-threaded AMD machine sometimes the system becomes unresponsive until the application finishes hiccupping, but on the Intel box that almost never happens - I can go my merry way with other work until the errant application becomes lively.

So in my real-life usage, the HT machine is much better. I mostly just use the AMD for big compiles and database searches, etc. After being spoiled with HT I would never want to go back to using a single threaded machine as my primary computer; so until AMD comes up with multi-core later this year, all my new PC purchases are Intel. (Although a multi-processor AMD would be tempting )

my understanding is that banning is on a per account not per IP (not saying IP ban can't be done but in this case it isn't done) and since compfreak has a static IP it's easy to see who it really is. (the same english style helps out a lot too )

there's a little more to it than this. Intel basically excels in multitasking, db apps and media editing and AMD has picked up the rest of the catagories but going by the formulas: game = AMD, rest = Intel does work

I see, I guess specific ip banning (or whole range) can be used in more severe cases of misbehavior.
