Default ntuser.dat

This file is sitting on C drive, I am trying to transfer my files from C to an external hard drive, during the transfer I get a message that ntuser.dat is being used by another program and then I cant go on with the transfer. How do I stop that problem so I can back up my files.

It sounds like the real issue here is how you are transfering your files. Explain more about what you are trying to accomplish. Are you trying to make an exact copy of your C:\ drive onto an external HD?

Log in as a different user (will probably need to have administrator privledges). ntuser.dat is the HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry hive. There is one for every user and for obvious reasons it's loaded when said user logs on.
