Default Activation period almost up

I just built my new computer like three weeks ago, I am using the OEM version of windows xp pro that came with my old dell laptop. Now I only have like 11 days to activate windows on my new computer and the product key that was used with my dell laptop obviously doesnt work. My question is there anything I can do to get this setup to work? If not, how can I keep all my programs and settings on my computer like they are now if I have to install a new windows xp pro cd. Because they are saying that I cannot buy an extra license for an OEM copy of windows. I have my comp. setup just like I want it and I really dont want to lose it all by intalling a new operating system. Any help would be much appreciated.

there is a program in xp that you can migrate your programs and settings. forgot what the name was. what you can try is reset it for another 30 days you can do it 3 times. during that period go look and buy another OEM cd and use the key on the computer.

But if I get another OEM cd wont I have to reformat to get rid of the copy that is on there right now before installing the new OEM cd? And how can I reset it?

start>programs>activate windows

sometimes it will just pop up on your taskbar so just click it and put in the OEM cd key that came with the OEM cd that you're going to buy.

if it is same version you can just use the cd key and you can continue from here without formatting and retaining whatever you have right now.
