I just finished building a computer today, specs are posted below. I am about 98% sure that everything is hooked up correctly. I plugged the power supply in and the mother board has two little lights in the corner of it that come on, other than that it does absolutely nothing. When I press the power button nothing happens at all. I thought it might have been a bad psu but I jumpstarted it with a paper clip and everything came on. Please if anyone has any suggestions let me know.

you probably just have the wiring for your case's power button messed up, that would be the first thing i would check.

If you are running Windows, your computer 'doing nothing' is quite normal. Mind you, I just tried to install Linux and it can't even find a compatible mouse driver. . . are we all doomed to use command line operating systems forever?

well, you said you jumpstarted it with a paperclip, that is how you manually start the board without the power switch. you said that when you did this that it worked fine, so that leads me to believe something is wrong with your power switch.

Sorry, I looked up how to jump start the power supply, I did this by using the twenty pin connector and stuck a paper clip in the green wire slot and a black ground and this didn't start up the motherboard since I was using the 20 pin connector. I was wondering if there was another way to jumpstart the motherboard and everything.

ohh, you can jumpstart the motherboard using the paperclip by touching the contacts for the power button on the motherboard. your user manual for your motherboard will have directions on how to do this

Hello All, first post here.
I saw this post while surfing different forums. And since I have run into this problem many times and it seems to be a common problem I thought I would put my 2 cents in. ![]() Did you remember to plug in your 8 pin ( your motherboard requires an 8 pin connector instead of the older 4 pin config) 12v atx connector? It's surprising how many forget this step. Item 27 on the pic of your motherboard (which is from your manual). The power supply you have does have the 8 pin config included. Another question, does the cpu fan spin up at all? Good luck! |

unplug everything from your Mobo except the PSU and power button.
try to turn it on. if it powers up start pluging in items one by one starting with the video card and see if it powers up. If it dont power up try shorting the power button jumpers Bad parts can cause a Mobo not to boot, so can drives being connected backwards but thats kinda hard to do
