Default i need your help please !!

I want to buy a new motherboard but there is a problem. Almost all i'm interesting in have only 1 IDE connector. The problem is that i have an ide hard disk 250gb and an atapi dvd rw. If i connect the hard disk and the dvd rw to the same ide connector (as master and slave if i'm not wrong) will the hard disk perform in slower speed (at my asrock p4vm800 mobo when i do this the hard disk operates in lower dma mode)

I would really appreciate any answer. Thanks in advance.

Yes and no. The ATA controller can run them at different speeds so your hard drive isn't limited to ATA33 or anything like that. But only the CD drive or hard drive can talk on the cable at a given time so if both are in use at the same time they have to wait for each other to finish.

You can get PCI Cards that give out IDE Ports.

I would do that.

They are called Raid cards, and they are really useful I think.
