Default 2GB vs 4GB - How much of a difference?

How much of a difference would i notice in gaming and load times if i had 4GB versus 2GB? Is it worth the extra $100? I want to play all the newest next gen games, should i go with 4GB? Or would 2GB be fine for now?

my opinion is that 2 gb is all you need, you can always add on in the future.

save the money for a gfx card? sli/crossfire?

Unless you are running 64 bit Vista and using applications that require a LOT of RAM, there is not much point of getting 4 GB of RAM. 2 GB should be sufficient.

What about 3GB from 2GB, think it's worth £25 ($50)?

Knowing the make and model board to see what it supports would be the first step before simply pointing at any memory seen under $150-. Do you want performance or value ram? Corsair? Crucial? OCZ? Patriot? Mushkin? You can easily weed through newegg by simply choosing the type and speed as well as brand and price range with a simple browse through. But look over the specifications on the make and model board.

I actually haven't decided on a board yet, haha. Think that should be my next component ordered, and then branch off? (I'm ordering a new piece every paycheck, )

I kind of know the feeling there. The actual last items besides a new 18x possibly sata over ide dvd burner will turn out to be the board and a heftier 700w supply. While the Antec TP2 550w now works without issue the new supply could be a toss up between the OCZ GameXStream 700w model or one of the Antec TPQ 850w supplies in order to be somewhat future proof in passing the new supply onto the build that comes later down the road. But every board looked over supports the 2gb of DDR2 800 already ordered and standing by.
