Hey guys,
ok here's the problem. I got a 3.0 ghz p4 off a friend. And from another friend i got a fairly cheap mobo, can't remember the exact name, but its nothing special. The problem is, when I hooked everything up, it seems like the mobo is fried, even though its nearly brand new. The fan on the cpu runs, and everything else is powered, however the mobo seems to be dead. And when i take out the ram and start up the comp, it doesnt make any noise or give me a signal, like it shuold sicne there's no ram. I kno that the processor works cuz it was tested b4 it was given to me. I'm thinking that the 300W p/s is not sufficient enuf for the mobo. Before I go out and buy a new p/s .. i just wanna know if you guys kno of anything else that mite be causing this. Thx |

The PSU connect to the mobo and it switches via the buttons on the front of the case which coincidentally are connected to the jumpers on the mobo thus meaning that the mobo turns the PSU on (hence we call them "switching power supplies" rather than "self contained autonomously powering up devices"). Even my PS/2 circa 198-something does this.Quote:
