Default Need Clarification What Will Speed Up My Computer for Basic Operations Only

I'd appreciate any answers on this thread being geared to basic computer usage only such as browsing the internet, downloading torrent files, burning DVDs/cd's, etc., NOT GAMING OR DOING GRAPHICS WORK. Specifically, what will noticeably run basic processes faster, assuming high RAM is a given, Higher MHZ or having
a higher level processer. Specifically, will say a 2.3 MHZ Pentium 4 run processes faster then say a 1.66 MHZ Core 2 Dual. Will a 2.3 MHZ Core Dual run faster then a 1.66 MHZ Core Dual, etc. Any answers are appreciated.

for the tasks listed there is no need to go to those high end cpu's.
I cant tell what cpus you are talking about, you say core 2 dual. But these dont exist. Do you core 2 duo range or do you mean the intel dual core range
There is no 1.66ghz core 2 duo

Oh and also you say MHZ when i think you mean GHZ

can you be more specific with model numbers

Default Sorry About Wording Let Me Try to Articulate this Better

Sorry, I keep getting duo & dual confused as well as GHZ & MHZ.
Basically what I'm trying to understand is, Assuminh Hypothetically you have 2 computers with say the same XP OS, the same HD- say 120, the same RAM say
4GB but one is a 1.66 Core 2 Duo Processer & the other one say is a 2.8 or whatever the higher GHZ processer for Pentium 4, which one will be faster for your system forgetting about gaming & graphic works, for downloading torrent files & just surfing the net & bootup time? Will the difference be noticeable? What about a 1.66 Core 2 Duo & say a 2.8 (? whatever the Maximum is) Core Duo?
