problems with video playback

I have been unable to play any video regardless of the format (mpg, avi, etc.) in WMP, BSplayer, Quicktime, Real player, etc.

I can still do online gaming just fine. But when I try to play a video file the system just starts to crash. The file wont even load and it takes me forever to ctrl+alt+del the program. I have also been trying to get an error message, but nothing is displayed. Please help.
