"Thunking Spooler APIS from 32 to 64 Process has stopped working"

I'm running Vista Home Premium x64 and having trouble with either Adobe Acrobat 8.1 or Word 2007. (I have all the latest updates installed for Vista, Office, and CS3.) When I use the Acrobat add-on in Word 2007 "Create PDF," it will get about half way through the process and then lock up, giving me this error:

"Thunking Spooler APIS from 32 to 64 Process has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I'm not sure if this is an Adobe problem or a Microsoft problem. Has anyone run into this? Any idea if a solution is available? A Google search for the title of this thread is of no help.
