Short of buying an external usb soundcard, I can't think of a fix. Obviously the computer is able to turn off the speakers, but this may be a feature that is physically part of the sound card rather than something you can alter in windows, I dunno.
If it's really annoying you then open it up and have a look - soldering on a new socket may be possible...
