Hello... I don't think the BIOS will recognize the DVD if it's connected through a USB port. It will probably look like a USB device. If you plug it into a USB port after the system is booted, it should recognize it. Check your BIOS to see if "USB Legasy" or something similar is enabled. If not, then enable it. A computer I had would not recognize anything other than the mouse and keyboard if I left it plugged in during bootup. Then there's always the possibility that your USB/IDE adaptor is not set up correctly and has a conflict with something else. I think I'd just mount the DVD internally and be done with it. If you're worried about the warrenty, take it back to where you bought it and ask them to do it. Good luck.....
