What is the difference between intel quad core Q6600 and quad core OX6700? Both have quad cores, 8MB L2 cache except the clock speed is only a difference of 0.26Ghz. Why is the price difference between these 2 quad core processors differs by so much? Is there a major performance differences? I compare them because they have the same architechure.

The Q6600 is a normal quad core chips basically containing two core2duos. The QX6700 is the quad core extreme edition with unlocked multipliers for OCing.

the extreme has a unlockable multiplier. Thats it im pretty sure. There is no special cores or anything its a q6700 with a unlockable multiplier. Intel has some crazy prices. like the e6700 being like 300 when the e6750 being like 220

The Q6600 is a quad core processor with a clock speed of 2.4ghz. It has a fsb of 266mhz and a multiplier which is locked to 9X. This means it stays at 8-9X, and it can only be overclocked through increasing the fsb. The qx6700 is a quad core processor with a clock speed of 2.66 ghz. It has a fsb of 266mhz and a mulitplier which is unlocked, however it starts at 10X. It can be overclocked through increasing the mutliplier or increasing the fsb.
The qx6700 is an enthusiasts processor. If you don't feel comfortable overclocking, get a q6600.

Ya. Probably Q6600 since I do not overclock. But what held me back is perharps the evoke of the E6850. Both of them are almost about the same price. It can be quite diffiult to choose being E6850 the lastest. Any add ons?

If you aren't going to be overclocking, then the QX6700 is a waste of money, and you should just get the Q6600. The Q6600 only costs $289, whereas the QX6700 costs $975.
