Default vista problems

i just bought a new computer its one of those intel core 2 quad processor computers and it has vista and i hate it i have a legit copy of xp home and it wont let me install it even threw trying it in bios it wont even load it all it comes up with an error saying it stopped the process because it may damage the computer can it be that i cant use sp home on this thing or do i gotta mess with its brain a bit more.... any help would be appreciated
