Default Core Duo Vs Core 2 Duo (in laptops)

What is the differance between a core duo and a Core 2 duo?

Which is the most energy efficient and so better for laptop battery life?

Is a core 2 duo Double the speed? how much faster are the core 2 duo's?

The Core 2 Duo's aren't double the speed, there only marginally better. However the Core 2 Duo's are 64 bit, while the Core Duo's arent.

Check it out for yourself:

They support 32 bit and 64 bit.
For example, right now I am using Windows XP Pro 32 bit edition, but I could run 64 bit if I wished.

Only the Core 2 Duo is a 64 bit CPU. The Core Duo is a 32 bit CPU, and only 32 bit OS's will work.

Then either one will work, since they perform similarly. Although if you want to keep the laptop for a while, then a 64 bit OS will be better.
