Ok, so, i'm getting ready to build me a semi-new computer. I say semi-new because it's not going to be a brand new computer; I'm basically only updating the parts I need to. This means a new CPU/mobo/RAM, and also a new video card. Depending on how much that runs me I may throw in a new case and I may also need a new power supply. Other than that, I'm keeping and reusing HDD's and optical drives.
As for the CPU, I narrowed down my choices to the Q6600 and the E6850. I read some threads in the CPU section and I'm fairly convinced to go for the Q6600. Mobo- I've pretty much narrowed it down to the EVGA 122-CK-NF67-T1 and the EVGA 122-CK-NF63-TR, although I can't decide which. Also, if there's another board out there that's in the same price range that is alot better, I'm not dead set on one of those. RAM- Nothing in paticular...just whatever's good priced, DDR2 667 or 800, a brand like Corsair. Video card- I was thinking a 8800GTS 320mb or 640mb (depending on how much I want to spend) would be more than adequet for me. My current power supply is a 500w HiPRO so I'll probably need to get a new PSU too. My uses for the computer are some light gaming (very occasional games like BF2, etc)...mostly I play games like flight simulator and whatever strikes me at that moment. My birthday is next month so there's a good chance I'll be getting some of this (or money for some of it) as a present. Also, is nVidia, Intel, AMD, or ATI cutting prices/releasing a new product line anytime soon (anything worth waiting for, anyway)? Thanks in advance for the help, computermaineack

That looks pretty nice of a system.
Jealous. I think you should go for the GTS 320mb Version, is it is quite a large price difference between the 640mb and the 320mb. Well, at least here in australia, its a $111 Difference. How much ram did you plan too be getting? Intel is leading the performance war atm with its Core2Duo/Quad Range's The Q6600 Is an excellent choice of CPU.

if you don't game that much there is no reason to drop 300+ bucks on a video card so definitely don't go more than an 8800gts 320mb... get 2gigs of 800MHz ram something like you said gskills, crucial, corsair... a corsair 520 psu would do for your system nicely. a lot of stuff now doesn't use the quadcore effectively so if you want to save money you could stick with the e6850 but if you want the quad... go for it. just make sure your mobo can support any expansion you might want to do in the future. intel and amd did recent price cuts and amd is waiting on the release of their quad core but they did just release a x2 6200 or 6400 black edition i forget the number

The e6850 is more expensive than the Q6600.

MB: get EVGA 122-CK-NF67-T1 as your choosen. Or get one with intel P35 chipset, e.g. GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3P
RAM: agree with cheburns, and OCZ is pretty good as well; but get one with low Cas Latency if you can. HDD: Seagate (personal preference) or WD with 16MB cache PSU: Corsair 520w |

Ok, so I've done some research on 680i vs P35, and I've narrowed down the mobo to either a 680i eVGA or an Asus P35:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188012 also, the Corsair 520W is a little out of my price range. And when I say a little, I mean about twice what I want to pay (what it costs on Newegg, anyway). I'm looking to spend about $50-$75. edit: I'll also need a HSF for the Q6600.
