Strange (registry file!?) problem

recently ive a laptop has come to my possession. i got it from my brother. its not in very good condition after coffee and salene solution were both spilled on the keyboard. now, one of the problems ive some to face is that, when double clicking on something, Search is the default action taken instead of Open. this is getting rather tedious having to right click on everything to open it. How can i change it back to normal in the registry files?

Try this out
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell and make sure that (Default) for this key is set to string "none"
